Finding Freedom through Improvisation with Simone Seales
Join cellist and improvisor Simone Seales for a warm and welcoming session aimed at anyone who has an interest in exploring improvisation and freedom of expression in their playing. Suitable for instrumentalists or vocalists from any discipline, this workshop will explore how to express feelings through sound in a group without musical notation. It will be playful, engaging, and experimental.
You can bring a instrument of your choice which you feel comfortable improvising on. No previous knowledge of improvisation required, just curiosity!
This workshop is for 16–25* year olds. To reserve a spot please fill out the sign up form.

*Our activity is for people up to the age of 30 if they are:

Originally from Florida, Simone Seales is a Glasgow-based cellist and performance artist working with free improvisation, live looping, and poetry within their own performances and across theatre and dance. Their practice centers play, silliness, connection, and exploring sound as a way of embodying emotional states of being. Their creative influences come from Black feminist leaders such as Audre Lorde, Assata Shakur and bell hooks. Within Simone’s work, they center Blackness, intersectional feminism and anti-racism. In November 2025, Simone released their debut album Dearest, a work which blends poetry and music to reflect on the warmth, nostalgia, and tension of queer first love.
