Voxox: Vocal experimentation with Cara Tolmie
This workshop is open to anyone interested in experimenting with the voice, with no prior experience needed. Led by artist and musician Cara Tolmie, this session will present a group of exercises that play with the more experimental qualities of vocalising and singing together. The exercises will be simple and give you space to try out your own voice in a way that is comfortable for you.
Together, we’ll explore different ways of making sound, from simple vocal instructions to playing with the more strange and under used qualities of the voice. There will be space for group vocal experiments, improvisation, and personal exploration, all aimed at discovering new sounds and playful ways to explore many different capacities within your own voices.
The session will take place at Music Broth, a fully accessible venue.
No prior knowledge required, and equipment is provided. Please email us via music.space.projects@gmail.com with any questions.
We reimburse all participants travel costs, we can discuss this with you once your place is confirmed.

Cara Tolmie works across performance, music, installation, collaboration and teaching. Her practice explores the relationship between voice and body and plays with different ways of both reinforcing and distorting the bind between the two. Through repetitive, uncanny and mesmeric uses of her voice and body she invites audiences into experimental listening situations that explore what can be discovered about embodied sound for both the singer and listener.
